A Day in My Life as a Branch Manager
#teenacarretero
As a branch manager, I am constantly juggling a million different tasks and trying to keep everything organized. It can be highly stressful, and sometimes I feel like I'm going to snap. Today was one of those days. I discovered some inefficiency at work, attended a virtual convention, reviewed contractors' billings, approved items for purchase, and checked emails and invites. The stress of upcoming programs and field activities weighs on me, and I do not know if it is all worth it.
Part of the reason being a branch manager is so stressful is that there is always something that needs to be done. There is never a moment to rest or take a break. And even when things are going smoothly, there is always the fear that something will go wrong. That is why it is crucial to have a sound support system—family, friends, or colleagues.
Another reason the job can be so stressful is that different stakeholders often have conflicting demands. For example, the client might want the project completed as quickly as possible, while the team might need more time to ensure everything is done correctly. My job is to balance these competing demands and ensure everyone is happy with the final result.
Being a branch manager is not for everyone. It requires a lot of multitasking, organization, stress tolerance, and people skills. But this might be the perfect career for you if you thrive under pressure and enjoy being in charge of complex projects. If you are thinking about becoming a branch manager in a utility company, make sure you are prepared for the challenges that come with the position.
